Project STEMpathy Foundation is an educational nonprofit dedicated to providing STEM and empathy-based learning to elementary and middle school students. We host workshops and after-school programs that engage students in hands-on, project-based activities that benefit their community.
What is "STEMpathy"?
"STEMpathy" is the combination of STEM and Empathy. STEM includes the studies of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the experiences of others. We believe the most meaningful innovations happen when STEM and empathy work together, giving students the skills to solve real-world problems through creativity, critical thinking, and innovation. By connecting students with children who have neuromuscular disabilities, we inspire them to design and build adaptive technologies that meet real needs and make a lasting impact.
Our Story
Claudia and Kevin started Project STEMpathy as guest speakers at local schools, offering a small classroom discussion and brainstorming activity for building adaptive technologies. At the end of the school year, we would bring in the finished products based on the students drawings. But we thought, what if the students could build the adaptive technologies from start to finish? We began holding small after-school workshops that quickly grew into weekly programs with a community of young engineers, families, and educators. Today, our students design and deliver adaptive technologies including ride-on cars, walkers, toys, and many more to children in their own neighborhoods. This is only the beginning of our journey.
